A SOCAN Song of the Year award-winner at the age of 17, Joel has been crafting music in some fashion since adolescence. His musical family of 11 children (7 boys, 4 girls), allowed him to explore all the of the different musical sensitivities that come with having to compete for the record/8-track/tape/cd player in any given room. From classic motown "Time Warner Music Collections" to the Columbia House subscriptions, to the unending record collection in the basement of his guitar teacher (now his small home-town highschool's music teacher), Joel's broad tastes are reflected in his discography. He doesn't "fit". Things enter his space, and he makes stuff out of it while it's there. His dramatic conversion to Christianity in 1998 led to a number of recordings with the worship jam-band Capstone - who went on to sell thousands of CDs from the trunk of their cars and touring with some of the worlds' most prolific worship writers and leaders. His post-Capstone solo-work is a mix of rock-oriented worship music and singer-songwriter troubadourism. In his newest work, Joel has chosen not to wait for affirmation - but rather, to just create. Launching new music monthly into 2024, he's hoping his joy of creation encourages others to jump into the fray and make cool things.
